The heel portion B is hinged to the toe part A, which has a conical stem H fitting a socket screwed to the bench or work-table. The two parts are pressed together by a spring G, and are separated by means of a screw D to the required distance to suit the shoe in hand. They are provided with dovetail grooves C, C<1> respectively to receive removable extension pieces in order that the last may be used with a shoe of any size.
