It consists of a shaped block in two parts A, B hinged together and adapted to be forced apart to some extent by a screw E or by wedges F. The leather &c., which may be cut approximately to the shape required, is applied to the block in a wet state, and is fastened to it by a strap encircling its upper edge. The shaping is done by hand, or by any suitable appliance.
