Abstract

8123. Justice, P. M., [Chase, A. W.]. April 18. Roasting-furnaces for treating ores and bye-products containing sulphur and iron, with or without other metals. The furnace shown in Fig. 1 consists of three open U-shaped troughs G, G<1>, G<2>, connected together by the passages g<2>, g<3>. The material is fed into the troughs from the hopper F with valve f, and is discharged by the shoot g<4> with valve g<5>. Conveyers are arranged in the troughs to carry the material in the direction shown by the arrows. The conveyer shafts are hollow, and water or other cooling-liquid is passed through them, being supplied by the pipe L with its branches, and being discharged through the pipes r. The conveyer shafts are driven by the gearing shown, power being applied to the bevel-wheel j<2>.
