Abstract
26,273. Stendebach, C. F. P. Dec. 12. Lighting gas. - A secondary valve admitting gas to the main burner is actuated by the expansion of a rod heated by a pilot flame, which h a s been previously lit by an automatic igniter, and which also ignites the main burner. The gas, when turned on by the ordinary or main valve, traverses the passages 6<d>, 8, and 10 to the pilot jet, and is lit by the automatic igniter 11. The heat of this flame expands a rod 12, which causes the pivoted lever 14 to raise the tube 6 and allow gas to pass through the slot 8 to the lower side of the piston 6<a>. The pressure of the gas then lifts the piston and tube sufficiently to uncover the slot 9 and permit the gas to traverse the channels 6<c> and 16 to the main burner, where it is ignited by the pilot flame, the tube 6 ultimately cutting off the gas supply to the pilot tube 10. Upon turning off the gas by the main valve, the parts descend by gravity to their original positions.
