Abstract
19,936. British Thomson-Houston Co., [Case, F. E.]. Sept. 20. Motors, controlling.-A seriesparallel controller for four or more electric motors, arranged in pairs, is so. constructed that when one or more motors are cut out the remaining motors will be connected in parallel. Fig. 1 is a development of the controller cylinder K carrying two series of contacts, arranged in the manner shown, and acted on by two rows of brushes numbered 1 to 8 and 9 to 15. The motors A<1>, A', A<3>, A<4> are provided with cut - out switches CO<1>, CO<2>, CO<3>, and CO<4> respectively. In the first position of the controller, the motors are coupled in two pairs A', A<3> and A<2>, A<4>, the pairs being in series with each other and with a resistance R, as shown in Fig. 2<a>; when, however, one of the motors A' is out out by throwing the switch CO<1>, the connections are changed so that the remaining three motors are in parallel, as shown in Fig. 3<a>.
