14,750. Taylor, R. July 5. Carding-engines.-To enable the flats to be attached to the chains or removed therefrom without disturbing or displacing the chains, a stud or bolt 4 with flattened sides is screwed horizontally into each end of the flat, and each bolt takes into a keyhole-shaped slot 5 in the corresponding link of the chain. By turning the bolt through a right-angle, the flat may be secured to the chain or removed from it as desired. In a modification, the flat is provided with a vertical stud, which takes into an aperture in the link of the chain and is secured by a set-screw. Flexible bands of metal or other suitable material fitted with brackets carrying the studs or bolts may be used instead of chains.
