Abstract

13,273. British Thomson-Houston Co., [Steinmetz, C. P.]. June 14. Distributing; lighting, systems of.-Relates to the combination of a three-wire with a monocyclic system. Fig. 1 shows one arrangement. The generator G has an armature coil C connected to collector rings R, R<1>, and a second coil C' connected to an intermediate point in the coil C and to a third ring R<2>. This coil is at an angle to the field, and thus an electromotive force of displaced phase is maintained in the main 2. For ordinary lighting the current is obtained from the mains 1, 3, through a transformer T", the mains 8, 9, 10 forming a simple three-wire system. Where multiphase translators are included, such as the motors M, M', M<2>, M<3>, two transformers T, T' are included. T is similar to T", but T<1> is supplied from the circuit 2, the secondary being connected as shown. Single-phase translators are connected between any two of the wires 4, 5, 6, while multiphase translators may be supplied from any two of these and the wire 7 which is supplied with an out-of-phase electromotive force. In a modified arrangement, the neutral wire is led by to the generator, and is connected to the neutral point of the coils, as described in Specification No. 13,274, A.D. 1898. In a further modification, an independent coil on the generator maintains the out-of-phase circuit. In another arrangement, a single-phase generator G is employed, and a single-coil transformer T supplies the working circuits 4, 5, 6. Three-phase motors are arranged with one of the coils connected to a supplementary conductor 7. All the motors will start as long as one is running. The transformers may be simply wound, or may be arranged to give a displaced phase for working three-phase motors.
