Abstract

13,167. Bang, A., [Dahl & Co.]. June 13. Dyes, artificial.-A dye-stuff. which is soluble in water and alkalies and yields absolutely fast brownish-green to intense black shades upon unmordanted cotton according to the strength of the solution, is produced as follows :-Dinitrodiphenylamine monosulphonic acid is melted with sodium sulphide and a little water, then sulphur is added, and the mixture is heated to dryness and then melted at 200‹ to 250‹ C., at which temperature it is stirred until it again becomes dry. If the product is dissolved in water and acidulated, a brownish-black precipitate is formed which redissolves in alkalies with a greenish colour. The dinitrodiphenylamine monosulphonic acid used in this process is produced by boiling aniline sulphonic acid with dinitrochlorobenzene in aqueous solution.
