Fig. 1 shows a cover for a pneumatic tyre, comprising an outer rubber envelope 1 having stitched to the inner side thereof a strip 2 of quilted or reinforced canvas, the edges of which project therefrom, one being reinforced by an outer strip of leather 4 and the other by an inner strip 7 of leather; the latter edge is provided with loops 6 to pass through eyelets 5 in the former. A lacing-cord is passed through the loops, and the ends thereof are tied together. In applying the tyre to a heavy vehicle, as the larger cord used would make a cumbersome knot, the ends of the cord are passed through a hole in the rim, a hole in a bracket, and a hole in the long arm of a lever fulcrumed to the said bracket, and thence are passed and clamped under the short arm of the lever. Two such clamping-levers may be used, one for each end of the cord. Binding- strips 3 of tape are laid along the edges of the rubber, and are firmly secured to the canvas by parallel rows of stitching, the edges of the canvas being further reinforced by whip-stitching. In applying the invention to single-tube tyres, the rubber envelope may be dispensed with.
