Abstract

6533. Imray, Q., [Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning]. March 17. Dyes, artificial. - Anthraflavic and iso-anthraflavic acids are converted into two new isomeric tetra-oxyanthraquinone disulphonic acids by the following reactions, viz.:-(1) A disulphonic acid is first produced by acting upon anthraflavic or isoanthraflavic acid with fuming sulphuric acid, of 10-20 per cent. free SO3, at 110‹-120‹C. until a product soluble in water is obtained. (2) To the mixture containing the disulphonic acid nitric acid is added, whereby a dinitrodisulphonic acid of anthraflavic acid, or of iso-anthraflavic acid, is produced, and this product is separated by pouring the mixture into water and salting out. Both the dinitrodisulphonic acids yield a neutral and an acid potassium salt. (3) The dinitrodisulphonic acids are reduced in acid solution by stannous chloride, or the like, to diamidodisulphonic acids. (4) By oxidizing these products with peroxide of lead, peroxide of manganese, chloride of lime, ferric salts, chromates, persulphates, nitric acid, or the like, the amido groups are replaced by hydroxyl groups, and tetra-oxyanthraquinone disulphonic acids are obtained. These compounds are valuable mordant and acid dye-stuffs, and their acid colours may be shaded by subsequent treatment with metallic salts. With aluin, blue-red shades, and with chromium fluoride, pure violet shades are obtained, which are fast to milling and light. The shades yielded by the tetra-oxyanthraquinone disulphonic acid derived from iso-anthratiavic acid are somewhat more reddish than those yielded by the isomeric compound.
