Abstract

30,583. Dewhurst, J. H. Dec. 28. Foundry ladles.-A ladle for slag or molten metal is mounted on trunnions B which turn in bearings on a railway truck. One trunnion has a worm-wheel G on it which gears with a worm L on the shaft J. Two chains are wound in opposite directions on drums on the shaft J, so that, when the truck has reached its destination, and is scotched, it is detached from the locomotive, which is attached to one of the chains N and on being started unwinds it and tips the ladle. By pulling the other chain the ladle is returned to its upright position. The ladle may be operated by hand-wheels M. A cast-iron ladle is described comprising a ring carrying the trunnions to which is bolted, below, the part forming the bottom and, above, the pieces forming the sides.
