Abstract

28,365. Donat, G., and Jones, A. S. Dec. 1. Handle - bars f o r bicycles, tricycles, &c. are arranged so that the rider may be enabled to adjust the height without d i s - mounting. To the handle-bar 1 a disc 2 is attached which has a series of holes 3 upon its periphery, and is covered by a cap 4 advantageously formed in one with the cylindrical portion 5 fixed in the stem 5. A plate 8 is screwed into the end of the cap 4, to secure rigidity for the handle-bar. Within the cylindrical portion 5 is a spindle 9, which has a shoulder 9 and an upper part 9, which engages with the holes 3 in the disc 2. The spindle is forced upwards by the spring 10 controlled by the screwed plug 11. A lever 13 pivoted at 15 has a bent end 14, which is connected to the shoulder 9 of the spindle by a stud 15 screwed therein and passing through an inclined slot 12 in the cylindrical portion 5. By operating the lever the spindle end is disengaged from the hole 3, and the handle-bar can be adjusted to any convenient position and secured by the reengagement of these parts. A modification is described in which the holes are formed in the face of the disc, and the cylindrical portion is mounted at right-angles to the disc.
