Abstract
25,125. Hicks, J. J., and Zeal, G. H. Oct. 29. Alarms, burglar.-The instrument shown is for indicating the rolling of a ship, beyond certain limits, and ringing an alarm bell, but by slightly modifying the construction and dispensing with the index, it forms a burglar alarm. It consists of a tube a filled half with mercury and half with creosote, except for an air bubble f<1> to allow of expansion. Wires b, c are passed into the tube, the latter above the mercury under normal conditions, and are connected to the terminals k, l of a bell and battery. The opening of a door or window tilts the instrument on its axis h<1> so as to complete circuit.
