22,408. Pope, A. A. Sept. 30. Joints, tubular. Relates to joints or connecting- means whereby the members of bicycle or other vehicle frames may be detachably secured together. Fig. 2 shows one form of joint; the bracket or lug d is provided with a projecting socket c tapered internally to receive the tapered end of the frame member f, which may be strengthened by a liner h. A collar or sleeve e, e<2>, threaded to screw on to the socket c, is shaped to engage a split or other ring i placed in a groove in the end of the tube. When the sleeve is screwed on to the socket the parts are drawn tightly together. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the meeting-ends k, l of the tube and socket are serrated or otherwise formed to interlock. The ring i, which forms a shoulder for engaging the sleeve e, may be dispensed with, and an opposite-handed screw thread or other means substituted. The joints may also be used in cases where solid frame members are used.
