20,529. Froggatt, B., and Cook, W. Sept. 7. Brakes for wagons. The shaft D for applying the brake blocks A is rocked by the lever E<2> which is moved by the lever G on the transverse shaft H. The other end of the shaft H carries a second lever G<1>, so that the brake can be applied from either side of the wagon. Toothed segments J, which are keyed to the ends of a second transverse shaft K, are for retaining the levers G, G<1> in their raised or depressed positions. In a modification, the shaft D extends across the wagon, and carries a lever E<2> on its other end also, while the toothed segments J are rigidly secured to the undercarriage, and the levers G, G<1> carry pivoted pawls for engaging the segments J.
