Abstract

14,922. Ferrand, C. June 19. Water-tube boilers; feedwater, heating.-Two independent boilers are placed one over the other to economize space and so that the upper one may utilize the heat which would otherwise be wasted when the lower is forced. The upper boiler may be used as an economizer when but little steam is required. In the form shown, the small tubes of the lower boiler are arranged in four groups- 1-2, 7-12, 3-6, 13-16, so that the heating effect resulting from direct contact with the fire may be distributed, and the cooling of the hot gases minimized. In another form, the tubes are not crossed, but are arranged chiefly in four longitudinal rows, so shaped that the gases circulate efficiently between them.
