Abstract

11,997. Imray, J., [Soc. Anonyme des MatiÞres Colorantes et Produits Chimiques de St. Denis]. May 14. Dyes, artificial. - Relates to improvements in the processes described in Specification No. 5736, A.D. 1890. A nitrated azo dye, such as that produced by diazotizing p-nitraniline and combining the diazo compound with naphthol disulphonic acid (R-salt), is reduced to the corresponding amidoazo dye, and this is then condensed with two molecular proportions of the nitrated azo dye by heating the mixture with caustic soda at 75‹-85‹ C. The product is precipitated by common salt, and dyes unmordanted cotton pure blue. The mother liquor contains an amido compound which is diazotized and combined with R-salt to produce a violet-blue dye. If R-salt in the foregoing first example is replaced by a-naphthol-a-sulphonic acid, a violet dye results. Mixed azo dyes are obtained by using different components in the nitrated azo and amidoazo constituents.
