11,461. Burgess, C. T., and Burgess, W. B. May 7. Bicycles.-Relates to bicycles, the frames of which are formed from a strip of wood or other material. One end of the strip a starts from the plate e formed with the steering-socket and extends downwards and rearwards, the rearward portion being split to pass on each side of the wheel, the split parts being secured to the flanges b<1> of the bottom bracket b, and again to the brackets c which support the rear-wheel axle. The strip is then passed upwards, and forms a loop upon which is fixed the saddle-pin bracket d and is then made to lie in the hollow of the bracket b, whence it passes to the plate e. It may again be bent downwards and attached to the cup of the bracket b, whence it passes between the longitudinallydivided strips to which it is secured by the plate f so as to form a mud guard. The bracket b may be formed with bent plates b<3>, and stays g and h may also be added. The front and rear portions may be laced with wire to give increased strength, and also act as a dress guard. If the bicycle is for men, a stay may connect the upper parts of the loops. Modifications are described, in one of which an extra stay connects the steering-socket and bottom bracket and the arrangement of the frame is slightly varied, and in another both ends of the strip a are secured to the plate e and the form of the bracket b is modified.
