Abstract
5256. Lake, H. H., [Klever, F. W.]. Feb. 26. Iodine.-Relates to a process for dissolving iodine in mineral oils for medicinal purposes. Mineral oils of a specific gravity of À89 to À90, with or without the addition of fatty oils or oleic acid, are mixed with caustic or carbonated alkalies, and heated to a temperature of 200‹ C. during the injection, under pressure, if necessary, of oxygen. Or the mixture may be simply shaken up with air. Iodine is dissolved in this emulsion to the extent of about 6 per cent. to form the required product.
