Abstract
189,206. Dyson, L. M., (Newton, R. F.). Aug. 23, 1921. Rotary washing-apparatus.-Gold is separated from gravel or like ore by treatment in a substantially horizontal rotating cylinder provided on its interior with a lining of blanket material, and w i t h longitudinal riffles which are preferably inclined backwards from a radial position in order to carry the auriferous pulp to the top of the cylinder and to prevent it from sliding back into the mass of the ore. The coarsest gravel is first separated from the remainder by trommelling or the like, and the fine gravel, mixed with water, is fed by a shoot 10 into the rotating cylinder 1, which may be circular or polygonal in cross section. The latter is divided longitudinally, being hinged at 2 and secured by a hasp fastening 3. Surrounding the cylinder are iron flanges 4 resting on the rollers 5, the rotation in the direction shown by the arrow r being effected by a direct belt drive on the pulley 8. Water is sprayed on to the mixture, when it reaches the top of the cylinder, through perforations 12 in the upper surface of a feed pipe 11. Secured to the latter is a longitudinal shallow trough 13 extending as far across the top of the cylinder as the riffles 9 will permit. The water, gold and adhering fine sand, falls into this trough and is led away for further treatment by amalgamation, cyaniding, or the like. Specification 140,266 is referred to.
