Abstract

Fire, police, and like alarm systems and apparatus.-Relates to fire and burglar alarms of the type in which a verbal call through the telephone is automatically given by means of a gramophone. The fire or burglar alarm contacts 28 are in circuit with a solenoid 22 the core 21 of which is attached to a latch 18 which holds a lever 16. To this lever is attached a cable 23 passing over pulleys 24 and attached to a weight 25. Dependent from the lever 16 is a brake 20 contacting with the rim of the turntable 6 of the gramophone. The mouthpiece of the telephone is placed opposite the trumpet 11 connected with the tone arm. On a contact 28 being made the latch is withdrawn and the lever 16 raised, and a hook 17 raises the receiver hook of the telephone. The same movement of lever 16 removes the brake 20 from the turntable. The weight 25 in falling operates a switch 27 to close the circuit of a local alarm bell 34. The apparatus is contained in a casing into which the ordinary telephone instrument may be placed when the alarm is set. In the cable 23 is a fusible link 26 which is adapted to release the weight on the attainment of a higher temperature and so re-position the telephone receiver switch-hook. The alarms may be arranged on the closed circuit system by providing a spring to withdraw a solenoid core on failure of the current to retain it, and a second solenoid may be arranged to switch in anotherbattery on failure of the one and at the same time ring a bell.
