Abstract

188,749. Tinker, F. J. Aug. 12, 1921. Locking nuts. -- A threaded nut 2 is conical or has a conical extension and co-operates with a nut 3 having a conical recess in its base. The nut 2 is provided with radial arms 5 which are bent into engagement with the sides of the nut 3, or with radial recesses in the base thereof. Holes 8 are provided in the arms 5 to facilitate bending. The conical portion of the nut 2 is provided with longitudinal saw-cuts 6, and has a lesser taper than the conical recess in the nut 3. In a modification the nut 2 has conical portions on either side of the plane containing the arms which engage corresponding recesses in two nuts. The arms are then bent alternately into engagement with each nut.
