Stream-cutting machines; presses; lubricating. -Apparatus for making bricks &c. comprises a feed hopper a, an extension mill b, a take off device d, a rotary self lubricating cutter c<5>, a reciprocating stamps, a conveyer g, a push off device f to deliver the severed length through cutting-wires onto a travelling band, and gearing for throwing in and out of action the various parts. The hopper a contains heaters and forcers mounted on a shaft a<1> driven from a shaft a<9> through bevel wheels a<7>, a<8>, sprocket wheels a<5>, b<3> and chain b<4> from the main shaft b<1>, the shaft a<1> also driving the curved arm e<5>, which actuates the stamp e, through gear wheels c, e' brought into engagement by an intermediary wheel c<13> moved in and out of position by a lever c<16>. The stamp e comprises an interchangeable die head e" carried on a shaft e<2> reciprocated against the action of a spring e<8> by the arm e<5> striking a roller e<4> on a projection e<3>, a spring e<9> being provided to take up recoil. The mill b contains a helical or other extension device driven on the main shaft b<1> and has a feed barrel b<6> to hold dies of suitable shape. The take-off device d comprises rollers d<1> rotating in lubricant, and over it is situated a rotary cutter c' self lubricated by means of a container c<6> and actuated from a shaft c<4>. The severed length passes from the rollers d<1> on to a conveyer g driven from the shaft c<21> through gearing g<2>, countershaft g<3>, gearing h, countershaft h<1>, sprocket wheel h<2>, c<8> and belt h<3> and is pushed therefrom at right angles by a board f through cutting-wires j<1>, Fig. 3, onto an endless band rotated by sprocket wheels j', j<5>, j<7> driven by a band is from a wheel j<9> gesred to a wheel c<20> on the shaft c<21>. The pusher board f is carried on spring-controlled rods f<1> sliding in brackets f<2> and is actuated by a roller f<4> engaging a curved arm f<3>, the roller being reciprocated in a cranked arm by a shaft f<6> driven through gear wheels f<@>, i<2>, by the shaft i. The gearing co-ordinating the parts of the plant is mounted on a frame c<1> in the mill b and comprises a train of five gear wheels c<3>, c<2>, c<9>, c<*>, c<7>. Fig. 3. The gear wheel c<3> carrying the rotary cutter is geared by the adjustable wheel c<2> to the wheel c<9> driven by belt and pulleys c<12>, c<10> from the countershaft a<9> on the hopper. The wheel c<9> is also geared by means of the wheel c* adjustable on a shaft by a fork k with a fifth wheel c' on a shaft c<2> which drives. the conveyer and push-off device through sprocket wheel c<8>, and chain h<3>.
