Abstract

Heating by electricity.-In a system of heating buildings by an electrically generated heat radiating from the walls, floors, pillars or ceilings thereof, a heating resistance wire A is threaded through beads or tubes B of silica or porcelain and further enclosed by a metallic tube E of considerably larger internal diameter, preferably enamelled, and is then embedded in the walls, floors, &c. of the building or room to be heated. The wires are joined at the ends of the tubes to insulated connections lying in recesses, so that the tubes can be examined when desired. With a new structure the wall H is first covered with a layer of heat resisting material D to which the heating tubes are secured in zig-zag formation, the heater being then covered with plaster G. In an existing structure, grooves or recesses to receive the heater are formed in the plaster and lined with a heat resisting material. The tubes E may be covered with a small mesh netting F, Fig. 3. which helps to support the plaster and spread the heat more uniformly.
