Abstract
186,513. Semark, F. W., (trading as Brewers' Equipment Co.), and Allen, J. H. Sept. 8, 1921. Corking.-In a machine for corking bottles, the actuating- mechanism for the cork feeding and inserting devices operates automatically to stop the machine after the corking of each bottle by means of a countershaft from which the devices are driven, supporting means operating a clutch on the driving-shaft. The corks are fed from the feed-tube e<1> of the hopper e to a cork squeezing a n d positioning device d arranged on the upper side of an arm c secured to the cross-bar b<1> of the framing. The corking-plunger h is guided by rods f supported by the standards b, and is actuated by a slotted member g which is reciprocated by a rod n having a crank-pin or like connection to a wheel k<1> mounted on the countershaft k and gearing with a wheel i<1> on the driving-shaft i. The spring-pressed conical clutch m for locking and unlocking the driving-pulley l is operated by a. pivoted bar v the free end of which bears on one arm w of a bell-crank lever, the other arm w<1> of which is forked and carries projections engaging in a groove in the sleeve m<1> of the clutch. A spring-pressed collar u on the shaft k carries a crank-like disc u<1> with a pin u<2> to engage the...bar v. A trip-lever s connected by a rod r to an arm p<1> on a transverse shaft o carrying treadles p engages the arm t<2> of a lever having a forked arm t with pins t' engaging a groove in the collar u. The arm t<2> is in two parts with the outer part pivoted to the inner part and a spring t<4> connecting the' two parts. The bottle-table 5 is carried ,by a sleeve 6 slidable on a pillar 7, and a coiled spring 9 is provided between the sleeve and an annular disc 10 which is slidable on the post 7 and normally rests on a collar or distance-piece 11. The table is lifted to bring the mouth of the bottle into a recess c<1> in the underside of the arm c by mean! of an arm 12 which is mounted on a shaft 13 and has two branches 12a to engage the disc 10 An arm 14 on the shaft 13 carries a roller 15 engaging a cam-disc 16 on the shaft k. The bottle is positioned axially on the table. 5 by an upwardly-projecting curved abutment 8 which mav be adjustable radially of the table. A series of abutments with bases of varying thickness may be provided for raising or lowering the heigh of the bottle bed. On depressing one of the treadles p, the trip-lever s causes the arm t to move the collar u along the shaft k and remove the roller u<2> from contact with the bar v so that the clutch m is pressed by its spring m<2> into engagement with the pulley l, and the shafts i, k are rotated, thereby operating the device d and plunger h and raising the table 5. The collar a is returned by its spring u<3> to its normal position on the shaft k, and on the complete rotation of the shaft k the pin u<2> is brought to bear upon the bar v, thereby disengaging the clutch m and stopping the machine. A device e<4> for stirring the corks in the hopper e is driven by a belt e from the shaft k; or the arm e<4> may be stationar and the hopper e rotated. An additional guiderod f<1> may be provided below the rods f for the member g. A hand-lever may be substituted for the treadles p.
