Abstract
184,892. Westwood, J. Feb. 24, 1922. Belts; belt fastenings. - A V-belt comprises leather washers 1 threaded on a wire cable 4 which is doubled upon itself. The U-shaped end of the cable 4 is held in a block 5, Figs. 2 and 5, and the free ends are secured in a block 9 by screws which flex the cable in holes 11, Fig. 7. The blocks 5, 9 are held together by a U-bolt 14, which passes through holes 12, 13 in the blocks, and through holes in a link 16, which prevents the bolt-ends from spreading apart. Leather pads 15 may be fitted on the bolt 14 to form a continuous gripping-surface. To prevent the leather washers 1 from creeping along the cable metal blocks 20 may be fixed at intervals on the cable 4. The block 5 may be in two parts 18, 19 dovetailed to each other, Fig. 8, while the leather washers 1 may have cuttings 17, Fig. 4, to facilitate mounting on the cable.
