Abstract

Valves controlled by pilot or relay valves.-The trolly of an electric train is raised and lowered by compressed air controlled by inlet and exhaust valves 4, 10 simultaneously operated by a pneumatic piston 14 operated by compressed air controlled bv inlet and exhaust valves 19, 32 which are actuated by electromagnets 36. The inlet passage 24 leads through a non-return valve 26 to the chamber 29, a by-pass 47 and valve 48 being provided to make up for any leakage past the piston 14. The armature 40 of each electromagnet 36 may have a button 41 to enable the valves 19, 32 to be operated by hand. The circuits of the electromagnets are so arranged that only one can be energized at a time, and they may be connected throughout a train so that they can all be energized by two-way spring-off switches, or a main switch, with removable handles.
