Abstract
182,879. Vickers, J. W. April 5, 1921. - Orreries.-Relates to apparatus for demonstrating the apparent movements of the sun and moon. A graduated annular dial 6 representing the ecliptic is supported by standards 8 from a plate 4 mounted to rotate on a base 2. A plate 14, representing a part of the earth's surface and bearing objects in relief, is hinged to a standard 10 within the dial. A vertical dial 18 representing the meridian is fixed to the plate 14 and can be turned by means of a friction wheel 30 and a knob 24 so as to alter the inclination of the plate 14 to represent different latitudes. An hour-dial 34 is adjustably secured to the plate 4 and co-operates with a pointer 38 fixed to the standard 10. The sun and moon are represented by electric bulbs 42, 43 or heads adjustably mounted on the dial 6. Beads representing the planets may also be attached to the dial. The apparatus may be made collapsable, and may be supported in a tilted position, with the plate 14 horizontal, by means of an adjustable leg. Specification 15800/91 is referred to
