Rotary hinged leaves and the like.-An indicator, particularly adapted for race-course signalling, consists of one or more units each comprising a series of indicator plates B pivotally mounted on a central rod C. These plates are allowed to fall forward, one by one, to the display position in front of the window or opening A<1> under the control of two mechanicallyindependent and separately-adjustable catches or fingers D, D', which are pivoted at D<2>, D' respectively and are actuated by the core F<1> of a solenoid F. When the solenoid is energized the catch D is lifted to release the outermost of the leaves B, which falls to the display position; simultaneously the catch D' is depressed to prevent the following leaf from falling until the next operation of the solenoid, and so on. The leaves are returned to the upper position by means of a frame H, pivoted on the rod C, and having a handle H<1> which is moved downwards along the path shown in dotted lines to restore the leaves to the initial position. Or the return may be effected by means of a small motor M which winds up a rope J attached to the handle H<1>. A projection on the handle may break contacts at L to stop the motor at the end of the returning movement.
