Fuel, feeding.-In a system for feeding pulverulent fuel to furnaces by the aid of a current of air, the fuel is fed into the suction pipe of a blowing fan from a storage bin situated at a distance from the furnace the valve for regulating the supply of fuel from the storage bin being controlled at the furnace. The storage bin 1, Fig. 2, is divided into compartments each provided, as shown in Fig. 2a, with agitators 11<a>, 11<b> and a valve 13, preferably coneshaped, for regulating the supply of fuel to the suction pipe 18 of the fan 26a. The air inlet of the suction pipe 18 is provided with a wire guard 20 and a helical vane 21 to impart to the air a whirling motion. The valve 13, which is maintained is' a closed position by a spring 27, is actuated by a solenoid 25, the current through which may be varied according to the desired opening of the valve 13. The fuel-conveying duct 30 is provided with branch pipes 31<a>, 31<b>, 31<c> leading to the furnaces, control valves 36a, 36<b>, 36<c> being provided in the branch pipes operated by chain-wheels such as 46. The spindles of the control valves pass through electric contact boxes 40, as shown in Fig. 5, and are each provided with a contact arm 41 adapted to vary the resistance in an electric circuit and the current passing through the solenoid 25. Instead of operating the valves 13 electrically, they may be operated from the furnace by wires such as 82, Fig. 7, connected to the lower ends of the valvo spindle 14. Valves 33<a>, 33<c> are provided in the main conduit for isolating one or more furnaces.
