Abstract
181,838. Roberts, W. T. B., and British United Shoe Machinery Co., Ltd. March 22, 1921. Chanelling, grooving, &c.-In an evening and grading machine, for example of the kind described in Specification 17808/09, a supplementary device is provided for automatically sorting the treated workpieces leaving the machine. The soles emerge from the evening and grading machine and enter the sorting mechanism between a clawed chain 1, driven through sprocket gearing from a wheel 59 on a shaft 52, and a pressure foot 8 carried on a sliding member 4 which is balanced by a mass 207 and locked in operative position bv a catch 14. Receptacles 17, guided between supports 38, 39 by rollers 30, 29 and carried on a conveyer chain 34 passing over two horizontal sprockets, have vertical sides and a sloping back, and, pivoted on a pin 21, a bottom trap door 22 held closed by side springs 23. One sprocket 36 is driven from the main shaft of the evening and grading machine through a chain 64, friction drive 220, shaft 62, gears 61, 60, shaft 52, clutch members 58, 53, gears 51, 50, shaft 49, bevel gears 48, 47, and a yielding drive 40. The clutch member 58 has collars 69 co-operating with a roller 70 on a pivoted lever 73 biased by a spring 221 and terminating in a toggle member coacting with a toggle link 75 on another pivoted lever 72, controlled by a cam groove 68 in the clutch member 53. The clutch is controlled by a finger 11, pivoted on the slide 4, which coacts with a sole passing into the machine, and through a sliding rod 13, bell crank 80, rod 82 biased by a spring 84 and having a face 83 resting on the toggle. When a sole has passed, the finger 11 drops and the toggle is broken, the clutch member 58 slides and engages the member 53 and rotates the shaft 52, which under control of the cam groove 68, relieves the pressure on a brake device 54, 55, 56, reverses to allow the toggle to be straightened by a spring 77, restores the original motion, and through the toggle moves the arm 73 to break the clutch, reverses again to engage the brake and stop the conveyer after one revolution of the member 53. On the trap door 22 on the bottom of each receptacle 17 is a boss 24 carrying a sliding rod 25 roughly positioned when the receptacles are in sole-receiving position by a rod 92, through a rod 93, a bellcrank 95 and rod 99, by a cam 101 on a shaft 102, revolved by chain 227 from shaft 57 through a one revolution clutch 230 controlled by the pressure foot of the evening and grading machine. The final setting of the rod 25 is determined, as the receptacle leaves the sole-receiving position, by the limitation of movement of the rod 99 by the engagement of stepped teeth 105 with an adjustable stepped wedge 106 on a rod 108 connected to the horizontal rack bar of the machine. Beneath the machine a number of bins are ar. ranged, each surmounted by a roll 113 positioned to trip the trap doors of all the receptacles with rods 25 adjusted according to that particular thickness. Specification 147,921 also is referred to.
