Abstract
180,152. Luard, E. S., and Sidgwick, C. K. D. April 11, 1921. Fastenings for wagon doors; sliding bolts; fastenings controlled mechanically from a distance; hasp fastenings.- The bolt of a railwaywagon door is held in its lccking position by a spring-pressed catch, the means for releasing which is so far remote from the bolt that two persons are required to open the door, one to release the catch and one to operate the bolt. The bolt 1 is partially rotatable to bring a hasp 6, secured to it, over a staple 7 when the bolt is in its doorlocking position, its end or head 10 engaging a hole 4 in the bracket 5 fixed to the door frame. The head 10, which may be integral with or secured to the bolt, has a recess 9 into which fits the head 12 of a spring-pressed catch 13, sliding in guides 15. Attached to the catch 13 is a rod 14 ending in a handle 21. The rod 14 and catch 13 are protected by the angle-piece 24, secured to the bracket 5, and the cover 25. To release the bolt 1, one operator releases the catch 13 by means of the handle 21 while a second operator manipulates the bolt 1. The. handle 21 may be protected by a door 23 having a key-lock, and the hasp 6 is secured to the staple 7 by a cranked arm 8 sliding on the bolt, and may be further secured by a padlock.
