Abstract

178,557. Moore, M. S., and Cowlishaw, Walker, & Co. (1920), Ltd. Jan. 18, 1921. Screwing.-In a cutter bar for a coal-cutting machine, the worm C is formed by winding a strip of metal on to a mandrel, removing it therefrom and fising it to the bar A as by welding, shrinking or by inserting picks D through the strip and into the bar. The bar may be cylindrical or tapered and a channel B may be formed therein to receive the worm ; the base of the channel may be parallel to the axis or to the sides of the bar and in the latter case, the strip may be of rhomboidal section. Some or all of the picks D may be placed adjacent the worm as shown to support the latter. The pitch of the work and the angle of its operative face may vary at different points along the bar and a number of worms may be provided.
