Hank type. - In hank - dyeing machines &c., the hanks are carried by porcelain, wood, vulcanite, or non - corrodible metal reels e, which are of cross shape in cross-section, so as to provide deep circumferential grooves into which the treatment liquor is carried. The reels are secured to spindles rotated in a metal plate or carrier c, which is raised and lowered to move the hanks into and out of the treatment liquid in the vat b by means of chains v operated by a windlass or by racks and pinions. The reel-carrying spindles are each provided with chain pulleys, so that they can be rotated at all positions of the carrier by means of an endless chain, the chain pulley at one end of the machine being formed with or secured to a worm-wheel meshing with a worm splined on a vertical shaft m driven bv bevel-gearing from a transverse shaft. This shaft may be driven by means of open and crossed belts, the strapfork being so controlled that the direction of drive is reversed periodically. The Specification refers to the dyeing, bleaching, tin-weighting, and scouring of artificial silk, and the Provisional Specification refers to silk, worsted, woollen, and cotton skein yarns, straw-braid, or the like.
