Abstract

175,865. Frick, R. Jan. 10, 1921. Lift valves; actuating mechanism. - A lubricator from which oil is delivered by a valve actuated by vibration comprises a valve 8 slidable in a cylinder 9, both of which are normally seated on the base of a cup 1, thus closing the outlet 4. The valve 8 is secured to a stem 12 guided in the outlet 4 by fins 14 and passing through the top of the cylinder 9. A weight 16 is secured to the upper end of the stem and may be in the form of a triangle so as to be guided by the walls of the cup without obstructing the flow of oil in the cup. A light spring 17 encircles the stem 12 between the weight and the top of the cylinder 9. When the vehicle to which the cup is attached is in motion, the vibration causes the weight to reciprocate due to its inertia assisted by the spring 17. The movement is limited by a cap 2, which allows sufficient upward movement of the valve 8 so that the valve raises the cylinder 9 off its seat and admits a small quantity of oil. (See Fig. 4.) On the downward movement the cylinder 9 seats itself first, and oil confined therein is forced to the outlet by the continued descent of the valve, which acts as a plunger.
