Sorting defective discs by travelling bands, discs, screws, and the like.-A sorting device for disc-like bodies consists of a conveyer comprising two opposed parallel members adapted to support the edges of a disc, one member being moved relatively to the other so that the disc travels along the conveyer and is rotated, all parts of its periphery thus coming into contact with the supporting-members, whereby an incomplete disc is rejected. The invention is particularly applicable to sorting stampings for making closure-discs for milk-bottles. In one form discs D, Fig. 1, are fed by a belt A to two narrow supporting-bands C situated close to side guides B, and driven at different speeds. In another form, Fig. 3, the discs are fed horizontally against a back-stop F and on to the threads E<1> of vertical twin screws E rotated at the same speed in the same direction or at different speeds in opposite directions. The discs may also be fed on to the edges of vertical discs rotated at . different speeds and situated between guides such as B, Fig 1. Instead of these guides the edges of the vertical discs and the bands C, Fig. 1, may be of L-section. In a further modification the discs may be fed edge on between two spring-pressed members having a limited movement towards each other and made to travel at different speeds. In each case a perfect disc is carried forward and delivered and a faulty one fails to find the necessary support and is rejected. A cross belt G, Fig. 1, driven by vertical spindles II turns over any discs fed edge on by the band A.
