Abstract

174,535. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Bound Brook Oil-less Bearing Co.). Feb. 25, 1921. Bushes.-A self-lubricating bearing is made by forming a number of indentations or recesses in a strip of sheet metal, packing the recesses with graphite or similar lubricant without bending the metal and curling the strip into tubular form. The recesses 2 are diamond-shaped and are arranged as shown in Fig. 2 or Fig. 5. Fig. 4 shows a method of making bearings from a strip 15 which is indented by a die 16, filled with lubricant by pressure rolls 17, 18, scraped clean by a scraper 19, cut off by a knife 20 and curled by rolls 21. The lubricant in the finished bearing is consolidated by pressure and heat.
