Abstract

174,019. Flettner, A. July 7, 1920. Addition to 147,024. Rudders.-Vertical protecting-surfaces are provided for the auxiliary rudders described in the parent Specification. Transverse surfaces may also be additionally employed. Auxiliary rudders 105<b>, which are linked to the central auxiliary rudder 105<a>, are protected by vertical members 104. Arms 103 may also carry vertical protecting-members 107 to which may be attached horizontal protecting-members. The secondary auxiliary rudder 105<c> is the actuated rudder. When the rudder units are placed between upper and lower horizontal plates 108, Fig. 2, a front protector made up of vertical members 109, and horizontal members is employed, and freely pivoted members 110 on the two side main rudders 1<R> are also employed to protect the primary and secondary auxiliary rudders 2<P> and 20<P>.
