The stand-by halyard, which is smaller in diameter than the main halyard, is reeved through the flag halyard block or a grooved pulley e, Fig. 8, may be employed with a small central groove for the stand-by halyard. The halyard is kept taut, for example by arranging it to support a lever block working in suitable guides.
