173,995. Anthony, H. C. Oct. 8, 1920. Travelling-band strainers.-An endless filter band is formed of a number of screen plates r hinged together. The pivot bars t of the joints may be provided with rollers u which engage the supporting sprocket wheels f. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a strainer of a type described in Specification 161,292. The strainer is immersed in the liquid to be strained and is pivotally mounted on draw-off pipes c, which have portions c<1> depending inside the strainer. The band travels between side plates b, passage of unstrained liquid at the edges of the band being prevented by sealing-links z each of which is pivoted at one end on one of the bars t and at the other engages the next link z. The links z contact with angle irons y which project from the plates b at their edges. The upper wheels f, which act as driving-wheels for the band, are turned from a shaft q on one of the pipes c by bevel gear o, a shaft l, and bevel gear h. To provide for stretching or adjustment of the band, the sprocket-wheels may be mounted in slideways, or the plates b may have separate headportions adjustably connected with the lower portions b<3> by channel bars 3 and angle irons 4. The hinge joints between the plates r may be provided with loosely-fitting covers. The filter band may be protected by a rough screen 8 and a trough 9 may be provided for the reception of matter removed from the band.
