Abstract

173,904. Haney, S. H. Oct. 18, 1920. Landing-gangways.-A suspended cage, forming part of a fire-escape apparatus, is furnished with a gangway adapted to be lowered on to a window frame, the gangway being fitted with side rails which fold inwardly to lie flat when the gangway is raised, and are unfolded automatically into the acting position when the gangway is lowered. The drop gangway 23 in the raised position forms a closure to an aperture in the side of the cage. As the gangway is raised, by rotation about the shaft 25, mutilated pinions 28 are rotated by engagement with fixed sectors 27 and transmit this movement by bevel gear to the shafts 32 carrying the side rails 33 of the gangway, which thus are folded flat against the base. When the gangway is lowered, the reverse operation results in the side rails, being raised automatically into acting position.
