Abstract

173,512. Soc. Genevoise d'Instruments de Fhysique. Dec. 28, 1920, [Conveiztioii date]. Drilling-machines; backlash, preventing.- In a microscope attachment for precision machines for drilling, spotting and like work the microscope is located so that it may sight a point lying in the spindle axis. A member t carries a spindle u having a taper recess u<1> adapted to carry a tool. In Fig. 1 the tool is shown replaced by a short spindle v secured to a microscope attachment for checking the points marked on the work. In a modification, the prism x<1> is arranged between the object glass and the eyepiece. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the microscope is located m the hollow spindle u which rotates in a tubular member 7 and is connected at 6 to a sleeve 4 spliced to a ball-bearing worm wheel 1 driven from a worm w. Further alternative arrangements of the microscope are described. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a further detail comprising two slides such as b, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), moving at right-angles to each other and having their positions controlled by micrometer screws e which are journaled in bearings e<1>, e<2> in a table a and are adjusted by means of a hand wheel f and divided drum g. In order to eleminate the effects of back-lash between the screw e and nut c and to lock the screw against accidental displacement after setting, a second nut h having a handle h is moved forward until a shoulder h' contacts with a lug b<1> to lock the screw. In a modification the second nut is slidably keyed in the lug b<1> and is thrust axially to effect the locking by means of a cam-actuated bell-crank lever. Other methods of locking the screw e are described. The micrometer screws may be protected as shown in Figs. 5 (Cancelled) and 6 (Cancelled) by means of a plate p which passes through a curved opening s in the lug b<1>. In a marking- off device shown in Fig. 13 (Cancelled) the spindle carries a member 12 in which a spring pressed point 10 is ncn-rotatably mounted. The point mav be lifted from the work by means of a cam member 15 which coacts with a pin 13 secured to the point. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
