Abstract
172,605. Bõuerle, M. [Firm of]. Dec. 6, 1920, [Convention date]. No Patent granted. (Sealing fee not paid). Chimes; striking-mechanism.-In quarter-hour-chiming and hour-striking mechanism, automatic regulation is effected so that, even if disturbances have occurred, the chime corresponding to the first quarter is always produced whereupon at the succeeding quarters and at the full hour the chimes and striking are executed in proper succession. As shown in Fig. 1, the minute hand 80 is approaching the first quarter and a finger of the wheel oscillates a lever 45 lifting a lever 41 which in turn lifts a lever 40, so releasing the rack 38 which is urged to the left by the spring 48 a distance of one tooth corresponding to the first step on the pin wheel 12. At exactly the quarter, the finger on the wheel 47 rides from under the lever 45 and allows the lever 40 to drop and also releases the pin 43 on the wheel 22. Meanwhile the lever 66 is raised by the pin 65 on the wheel 8 and so by means of the lever 68 lifts the drive-lever 55, Fig. 3. The upper arm 56 of this lever has a claw 57 which is lifted out of a notch 58 in a drum 59 and the lower arm 60 lifts an intermediary wheel 53 into engagement with two wheels 51, 52, one of which 51 is fast on the cam disc shaft and the other 52 rides loosely thereon but is always engaged with the toothed wheel 35 of the chime drum 30. The cam disc 39 raises the lever 40 by means of the pin 74 and moves the rack by means of the pin 73, meanwhile driving the chime drum 30 by means of the wheels 51, 52, 53, and so chiming the first quarter. The arm 26, Fig. 4, of the hour-striking lever is moved out of the path of the pins on the hour-striking wheel 14 by means of the two-armed lever 61, 62 operated by raising the drive-lever 55, i.e. while the chime drum is in gear with the wheels 51, 52, 53 the hour-striking gear is out of action. At the succeeding quarters similar action takes place, but immediately after the third quarter has chimed the claw 57 falls into the notch 58 causing the chime drum to be put out of action and the arm 26 of the striking lever to be moved into the path of the pins of the hourstriking wheel 14 which is operated at the hour. If a disturbance is caused due, say, to a rapid adjustment of the hands so that one of the quarters is missed, the next quarter chimes correctly but at the full hour the drum 59 not having completed its revolution to allow the claw 57 to fall into the notch 58 the chimes due to the quarter missed are executed and thereafter the hour is immediately struck the appropriate number of strokes less the number of chimes already executed, but at the succeeding quarter the chimes are executed properly.
