Abstract

171,567. Wright, W. E., and Stevens, J. S. Sept. 27, 1920. Spring wheels.-In a spring wheel of the type in which the spokes are formed of circular metal springs, the springs are reinforced with spring leaves. Circular springs 3A, Fig. 1, are clamped between grooves in side plates 2, 2A on the hub, and by bolts 4 to the rim 1. Reinforcing springs 3<B>, 3<C> are used at the points of attachment. Two dished discs 5, 6, Fig. 4, are secured together by rivets 8 passing through distance-pieces 9. Blocks 10, of rubber, wood, or other material inserted from the inner side of and between the discs 5, 6, project to form the tread of the tyre. The blocks are prevented from creeping by abutting against adjacent blocks or against the distancepieces 9. The discs 5, 6 are secured on the rim by a detachable flange 11 and bolts 12. Any form of rim or tyre mav be used. The tread blocks may be made hollow, of rubber and may be inflated.
