171,333. Flude, D. J., Fetherston, H. M., and Schellnack, F. W. Feb. 25, 1921. Riding-saddles.- The U-shaped wooden seatmember 3 of a riding-saddle has the forward ends of the side-bars overlapping and attached to arms 22 projecting rearwardly from and formed integral with an arched, one-piece leather headmember. Extending from arch 16, which is made comparatively thick and stiff, are downwardly-divergent flexible legs 19, intended to be inserted in the usual pockets of the saddle panels. An elongated transverse slot 24, extending only partly through the material of the arch 16, is adapted to receive, if desired, an arched metal reinforcing plate. Leather positioning-pieces 18 are attached above the flexible portions of the legs 19 to enable the seat member to be correctly attached to the head member. Upper and lower metal reinforcing straps may be secured to the arch 16, the upper one 32 being provided with rearwardly-extending portions 34 which are secured by rivets passing through the arms 22 and the front ends of the seat member. A thin leather covering 37 is secured over the crown of the arch.
