Abstract
171,211. Fowler & Co. (Leeds), Ltd., J., (Fowler & Co. (Australia), Ltd., J.). Aug. 23, 1920. Scraping-apparatus; scoops.-In a vehicular earth scoop or excavator adapted to be hauled by means of a shaft line alternatively in opposite directions between anchored tractors, a scoop is provided which is tiltable so as to cut in reverse directions as required. The vehicle comprises side frames A, A, having means for attachment of draft cables, and supported by two wheels B, B free to rotate on an axle C, and between these side frames is mounted a scoop D, having an arcuate back d, carried by two side plates d' which are pointed towards their ends d<2> and there connected bv a cross stay d<3>. The scoop back has preferably three external sledge strips d<4>, stiffening-plates, and at each edge removable and reversible cutter d<5>. Each scoop side plate d<1> has a sectorshaped slot d<6> partly surrounded by an angle iron track d<8> and a toothed rack d‹, and the axle C, supported in bearings bolted to each main side frame A, passes through the slots d<6> and partly supports the scoop by a a roller c, having bearing in the angleiron track d<8>, and a toothed pinion c<1> to engage the sector rack d<9>, the roller c being free on the boss of the toothed pinion, which is secured to the axle C. Outwardlv of the roller c is provided clutch mechanism, the male member c<2> being axially slidable and non- revolubly affixed to the a.xle C, the female member c<3> being affixed to the wheel B, the mechanism being provided with separate levers for applying and releasing the clutches. A pawl f fitted on a spindle f<1> mounted on the side frame A normally engages the pinion c<1> and is provided with levers for freeing it from the pinion so that the scoop proper may be raised and lowered by the motion of the draught wheels when clutched.
