Abstract
170,477. Gray, B. P. Sept. 15,1920. Hoof-pads; bar shoes.-In hoof-pads for horses and mules of the kind in which a resilient plate lying between the hoof and the shoe carries a pad between the sides of the shoe, and particularly cf the kind described in Specification 113,988, the pad is shaped at the sides to engage the inner sides of the shoe to prevent movement of the pad towards the heels of the shoe, and the plate is provided with flanged-over parts or projections abutting against the heel ends of the shoe to prevent movement of the pad towards the toe of the shoe. The pad. is thus held in place without being permanently fastened to the shoe, and may be removed from the shoe without removing the shoe from the hoof, the flanged-over parts or projections being in some forms removably secured to the shoe to facilitate the removal of the pad. In one form, shown in Fig. 2, the plate 4 carrying the pad 2 has rear extensions 7 the ends of which are bent up, either during manufacture of the plate 4 or during its application to the hoof, to form hooks 8 abutting against the heel ends 15 of the shoe 1. In a modification, shown in Fig. 5, members 11 of sheet metal or wire with 'bent ends 12 hooking over the heel ends 15 of the shoe are detachably secured to the plate 4 by the engagement of hook-shaped rear-ends of the members 11 either with holes 9 in the plate 4 or with the edge of the plate 4. In another modification, shown in Fig. 7, rear extensions 13 of the plate 4 receive detachable stops 14, such as bolts, abutting against the heel ends 15 of the shoe.
