Abstract

Refrigerating, compression machines for.-A control device for electrically-driven machines comprises an automatic pressure-actuated expansion valve 82, arranged in a tubular fitting 61 which connects a pipe 58 leading from a receiver of liquefied gas and the inlet 59 of the evaporator coil, and manually-actuated valves 62, 64 respectively controlling the flow of refrigerant and the flow of cooling-water to the condenser tank. The motor switch 72 is mounted on the common spindle 62a of the two valves 62, 64, so that the refrigerant and water are turned on or off simultaneously with the starting or stoppdng of the motor. The pressure-actuated valve 82 is connected to a piston 84 within a chamber 75, and is urged to the open position by a spring 85, the travel of the piston being controlled by an adjusting-screw 87. The space above the piston 84 contains oil and communicates by an opening 89 with the evaporator coil 59, so that it is subjected to evaporator pressure, the valve 82 being closed when this pressure rises. The compressor and an oil separator are located in the condenser tank, the water supplied to the tank being only that sufficient to make up for losses due to evaporation from the tank.
