Gases, electrically precipitating suspended particles from.-Gases to be freed from suspended particles are passed through a flue across which extend pervious collecting electrodes and rows of discharge electrodes consisting of chains, rods, or wires spaced apart sufficientlv to ensure discharge,. being preferably at least as distant from each other as from the collecting electrodes 5. As shown, the vertical chain electrodes 6 are stretched by weights 9 and spaced by bars 10 at their lower ends; alternatively, they may be arranged horizontally or both horizontally and vertically. The collecting electrodes 5 may be perforated plates, wire nettings, or parallel chains, rods, or wires extending horizontally or vertically and placed close together. They may be removable through slots in the side of the flue, for cleaning. Dust may also be shaken off by a hammer 14 acting vertically or against the face of each collecting electrode, or may be brushed off; it is removed through doors 7. Means for cleaning the discharge electrodes may also be provided. The collecting electrodes may be insulated or earthed. Alternating or rectified highpressure current is employed. The flue may be arranged horizontally, vertically, or otherwise.
