Stream-cutting machines: rolling-machines; heating-apparatus; moulding confectionery. - Comprises a machine for making spiral stick candy in which a strip of candy passes over a table 20 to heated sets of shaping-rolls 23, 32 furnished with grooves of different forms, which rolls, together with an intermediate guide 30 having passages corresponding to the roll grooves, are laterally adjustable by means of a screw 38 to align the appropriate grooves with a twister 73; the candy passes through the twister, and between indenting- wheels 78, 79 to a tapping-device 136, where it is severed into lengths, such lengths passing to a drying-drum 155, on emerging from which the lengths fall on to pins 191 and are severed into sticks which fall into a receptacle 166. The rolls 23, 32 rotate on hollow shafts to which steam is supplied by pipes 55, 58, and they are correctly aligned by a pivoted gauge 50 having a pointed finger 48 adapted to engage the grooves. Fig. 10 shows the twister, which comprises a tubular member furnished with brushes 74 to engage the candy, and fitted with a gear 80 through which it is rotated. The indenting- wheels are mounted on shafts 106, Fig. 5, adjustable about spindles 108 by a screw 113 and are fitted with cutting-discs 102 carried by members 103 housed in slots 104 in the wheels; the discs 102 permit the candy to rotate during indentation. Motion is imparted to the wheels 78, 79 from a shaft 125 through gears 126 - - 129. The breaker 136 comprises a tubular member carried by a rod 140 which is vibrated vertically by a serrated disc 143 acting through a lever 142 against the action of a spring, motion being imparted pericdically to the disc 143 from the shaft 125 through stop gearing 145. 146. The drying- drum comprises a series of T-bars 155 carried by heads 151, 152 and spiders 161 forming a series of cells to receive the lengths of candy. Rings 163 enclose the drum to retain the lengths and are cut away at one point to form a discharge aperture. Intermittent rotary movement is imparted to the drum from the shaft 125 through a cam 175, link 173, pawl 172, and ratchet 162. Air is forced into the drum through a pipe 169. A cam 182 pushes the lengths completely into the cells of the drum during its rotation.
